What's hot and what's not for Summer

Author :

The trends they are a changing! Spring is gone and Summer is here. With the change of season, comes a change in the trends. We thought we would put together a short, yet sweet list of what is hot and what is not this summer!

Hot:

Succulents.
They are perfect for teeny tiny Montréal apartments because their textural appearance can pack a big punch in such a tiny container. Texture isn’t your thing? How about their endless variety of green hues which range from cool and warm grey to burgundy, forest and moss greens. Wow!

Growing walls. You have probably seen these intriguing gardens popping up in home deco magazines. Growing walls are perfect if you don’t have a lot of floor space, a garden, or if you just want something unique to compliment your home or apartment.

Loose hand ties.
With summer flowers in full bloom, loose hand tie bouquets are almost effortless to arrange and obtain. That loose, relaxed look is so trendy right now, take advantage while the summer flowers are still here.

Terrariums.
For plants that prefer humidity, try putting them in a terrarium! They will thrive in their new homes, and look spectacular in yours!

Multiple bud vases. Maximize the effect of your centerpiece (or centerpieces I should say) by replacing your traditional square cube with multiple bud vases. Try using all different flowers to achieve that wild, rustic, country look. Or use all the same blooms for a simplistic, modern effect.

Not:

Cello. As we mentioned in a previous blog, cellophane is non-recyclable and so we have decided that it is in fact, not hot. Cute brown paper wrapping with coloured tissue is most definitely in! Next time you are in our store, ask us to wrap your bouquet in environmentally friendly brown paper. You will love the results, we promise.

Tight and low arrangements. Don’t panic. They actually aren’t completely out. Low and tight arrangements just aren’t as popular as they used to be. Loose airy arrangements have been winning the arrangement race since this spring and they are still going strong this summer season.

Babies breath. As a team we are tired of always seeing this staple filler – especially since there are SO many other beautiful fillers to use! With summertime comes luscious lady’s mantle, vibrant limonium, colourful September wheat…the list goes on. With such variety, Westmount Florist invites you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You won’t be disappointed!

All red roses. Getting a dozen red roses for that special person in your life just won’t do…mix it up! Try a new colour rose for a change, or even mixed coloured roses (which should be on our "Hot" list...mixed roses are so hot)! You will be pleasantly surprised with the happy results.

Bear grass. Say bye bye to these blades. You may have noticed we are using lily grass to replace bear grass. For one simple reason; it’s nicer.
