Ask anybody who knows me, and they will tell you that I absolutely adore the Holiday season! There is just something about the feeling in the air that gets me all excited! The bustling streets and shops, the sounds, the smells, the wonderful decorations, its all enough to get me acting like a little kid again!
Flowers have long been the subject of great art, and the fascination of great artists. Paintings featuring floral subjects became especially popular during the nineteenth century. The industrial revolution, which occurred in Europe between 1790 and 1850, created a new and wealthy middle class. For men whose fortunes had been born of cotton mills and other forms of mass industrial production, the benefits of purchasing original works of art was twofold. On one hand it provided them with beautiful and valuable objects to fill the great manor houses they built in imitation of the ancient nobility. On the other, the value of these paintings both increased their wealth and gave it a tangible credibility.
Easter has always been one of my favorite times, and not just because it means lots of chocolate. Its springtime, everything is being reborn. Tulips, crocuses, daffodils, you name it, its sprouting up through the earth. The trees are budding, the birds are singing, and the Easter Bunny is on his way. Holidays for me always come with a whole host of memories, and over the years my family has had lots of fun little Easter traditions.
