How crazy is it that we have tulips available in January?! Tulips are fresh, fun and are warming up every bouquet and arrangement at Westmount Florist. A touch of spring this time of year is making the winter a little easier and tulips are getting all of us excited for the spring season ahead! This week, we are totally into tulips!
[Name of flower] Tulip
[Latin name] Tulipa hydrida
[Origin of flower] Originally found in southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and China.
[Common uses- how they come for sale] As bulbs for your garden, potted plants, or the most popular here, cut flowers!
[Colours and Varieties Available] Parrot tulips, double tulips in every colour except blue or black.
[Fun Fact] Tulips are one of the only flowers that stretch in water. This phenomenon is called phototropism; they are trying to reach up towards light. Just re-cut stems to avoid that crazy look, or leave it if you like it! Many people really want that “droopy tulip” style.
[At Westmount Florist…] This year we have gorgeous "bistrot tulip crates" that are unique to Westmount Florist. We also sell tulip plants starting in late winter through spring, and our cut tulips start to come in around January and are availablein an array of colors and varities til the end of May. Last year we sold an average of 1000 stems a week!
