Fun Facts About Roses!

Author : Lauren

Valentine’s day is almost here, literally folks…it’s less than a week away. Whether you are a hopeless romantic or despise all that mushy stuff, you cannot escape the day of love. Jewelry stores are packed, it seems like we are surrounded by cupid cut outs and of course every flower shop is overrun by a bunch of lovesick men and women. I am going to share a few fun facts on roses that will most definitely impress your honey!

-Rose petals are edible. But don’t get too excited, roses won’t taste like your gourmet Valentine’s Day meal, the flavors resemble green apples and strawberries.

-On Valentine’s Day in 2008, 214 million roses were sold in the USA. Woah, that's a lot of roses!

-There are more than 15,000 different varieties of roses.

-Apples, cherries, peaches, plums, almonds and pears are all part of the rose family.

-Throughout his writings, Shakespeare refers to roses over 50 times. Hm, maybe it was his favourite flower?

-There is no such thing as a “black rose”…yet. But some shades of red are so dark they can almost pass for black!

-Rose hips or rose haws (the fruit of the rose plant) contain more vitamin C than any other fruit or vegetable. Rose haw juice anyone?
