Father’s Day unlike Mother’s day is a completely different holiday work wise; it’s a lot less hectic. It is a celebration of honoring ones father and this year it falls on June 17th the third Sunday every year in June. However Father’s Day is not celebrated in all countries on the third Sunday` there are lots of countries who celebrate it at different times of the year. It’s a time to give thanks to our fathers for all that they have done for us through out the year.
Father’s Day was started by Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane Washington who invented her own celebration of Father’s Day in 1910. Her father was a civil war veteran who was a single parent who raised his 6 children in Spokane. Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring Father’s in 1966 designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later Pres. Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972 and was made a permanent national holiday.
Father’s Day can be a good reason to send that special Dad a floral gift which could be a tropical flower arrangement, a lush green plant or a very masculine bouquet of flowers arranged in a keepsake container. We have also done some pretty amazing gift baskets which could include some of his favorite reading material whether it is a magazine on fishing, skiing, biking and even some of his favorite goodies.
We get calls from senders asking if it is ok to send flowers to a man and my answer to them is … absolutely! Men enjoy receiving flowers just as much as they like sending them to that special person in their life. So don’t feel that women are the only ones who are supposed to receive flowers. Everyone one loves to receive flowers, even Dads so give us a call and let us know how we can get that special bouquet delivered to that special Dad.
